Elevating Education with Amplify and enVision Math: Empowering Excellence at Imagine Klepinger Community School

At Imagine Klepinger Community School, we use a curricular approach that meets each child where they are, accelerating their learning and refining their character. Our Acceleration Model guides teachers and students toward a high level of learning and strong character that results in engaged, productive citizens.

Our curriculum is characterized by challenging academic standards that lead to achievement for each student. Students expand prior knowledge through a spiraled thematic curriculum, focusing on inquiry and project-based applications of key concepts and universal ideas.

The curriculum provides students and teachers with world-class learning opportunities, with a focus on the following:

  • Student-centered results
  • Authentic and challenging materials and activities
  • Critical thinking and creative problem solving
  • Technology as a learning tool
  • A hands-on, minds-on approach to learning
  • Personal and global perspectives
  • Reflection and exchange of ideas
  • Interdisciplinary thematic units

We believe that engaging students in a rigorous standards-based curriculum is essential to student achievement and success.

READING CURRICULUM: Amplify and the Science of Reading

Our ELA Curriculum At a Glance:

We are excited to announce that we are using a new curriculum for our reading language arts program this year! Students will be taught using the program Amplify. Amplify is a research based program that aligns with the science of reading. This is a literacy rich program that incorporates foundational skills such as phonics, decoding, spelling, and writing. Amplify is an explicitly taught program that allows students to build in knowledge of arts, science, social studies, and literature.

In addition to Amplify, our students in grades K-4 are also receiving instruction in the University of Florida Literacy Institute foundational program. This program focuses on foundational skills of phonics, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, writing, and fluency. Students receive instruction in small groups for 30-40 minutes daily in efforts to build the foundational skills needed to become lifelong learners and readers.

What is the Science of Reading?

Over the past few years, there has been a shift in education to incorporate more of the science behind learning to read. It’s important so we wanted to explain.

So what is the ‘science of reading’? It is the science behind and the study of how people learn to read. It’s a body of academic work that has been studied for years. The science of reading has broken up the way to teach reading into 5 main components: Phonemic awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Comprehension, and Vocabulary. It is these foundational skills that will help children build a solid foundation to support reading at various stages.  Our teachers are using a new curriculum that is aligned with the science of reading, called Amplify. This curriculum teaches all 5 components of reading.

This is just one of the very powerful shifts in our instruction happening this year. We are excited about the change and know it will help our students immensely in their journey to becoming fluent readers.
